OL-RF-52-SST no LED for remote programming with EVO ONE

0 votes

Vehicle is a 2005 Buick Rainier with standard key. Installed the EVO ONE (remote start firmware 0.44) and the OL-RF-52-SST about a year ago (May 2020). Everything worked OK. The truck had an engine failure and was in the shop for several months with the battery disconnected. When powered back up, the Omega RF remotes no longer work. OEM remotes work. I followed the directions for remote programming as listed below. My antenna LED is not lighting up at all.

The unit was intalled with a custom T-harness for power using OEM connectors and automotive-grade wire. The 30A inline fuse is good. The harness to the antenna looks OK. I verified the unit still has FW 0.44 via my Flash-Link 4 programmer.

Here's the process I tried to program the remotes:

Flash 0.44 into the remote starter and do the following to program:

- ign on off on, led on antenna will light up solid.

- 4x on brake pedal. It should blink once with each brake press.

- Then send lock from each remote, should blink once again to confirm it programmed.

The solution here was a master reset of the unit. Once that was done, the antenna workled as it should and I was able to program the remotes. Everything is tested and working as of today.

Thanks for all of the help here.

try the same programming sequence you mentioned but instead of looking at the led on the antenna, look at the red led on the side of the unit underneath the yellow loop you cut. See if the evo is reacting to the commands for remote pairing.

What Derek said. But also, if the EVO-ONE is in an armed state, it won't allow remote programming. If it is armed, that RED led on the back (not the top) of the module will be flashing slowly. To get out of it being armed, you need to go in and out of valet mode. (igniiton on, press 3x on the valet button, ignition off)

Thanks for the info. Sorry for the delay getting back to this, but I didn't have a chance to look at the truck until this evening. I tried both suggestions and no-go (#1, no red LED activity w/ remote pairing attempts, #2, no slow red LED flash with ignition off or on). Here is what is happening with the unit (all doors closed):

Key off- no LEDs.

Key on- Amber solid LED

Key off-on-off-on- Solid amber LED, solid red rear LED that goes out after about 20 seconds.

Key off-on-off-on with 4x brake pedal pushes: Solid amber LED, red rear LED flashes w/ each pedal push, rapid flash after #4.

EDIT- I re-read one of my posts here from last year on this vehicle, and see it needed FW 70.39. I flashed it and the module is behaving exactly the same.

With your description your evo-one is indeed going into pairing mode but the antenna is not.

"Key off- no LEDs.

Key on- Amber solid LED

Key off-on-off-on- Solid amber LED, solid red rear LED that goes out after about 20 seconds.

Key off-on-off-on with 4x brake pedal pushes: Solid amber LED, red rear LED flashes w/ each pedal push, rapid flash after #4."

If this is the case, try re flashing 0.44.

If that does not work I would suggest getting in contact with rf manufacturer to determine if the antenna and cable is good or not.

0.44 is the remote starter firmware, not the bypass firmware

Thanks. I reflashed OK. No difference found.

I used some probes and a digital multimeter on the antenna cable (red-black-green-blue). All colors were connected 100%, no shorts found when probing the other pins with the probe connected to each wire.

I did observe the blue and green wires were swapped from one end to the other. As I recall on the install, this was something required for the RF-52 kit.

Next, when I plug in the antenna with ignition off, the blue LED on it flashes 6x.

Probably unrelated, but do any of the EVO ONE settings invalidate use of the RF remotes?

For bypass 70.[39], I have

C1: OEM remote monitoring: On

For remote start 0.[44], I have

11. Confirmation sound & antenna LED:

11.1 Silent on first lock/unlock, Sound on second lock/unlock press. Antenna LED active

11.4 Antenna LED disabled with ignition

38. System control by OEM remote

38.2 Enable, press lock 3x to remote start

There is no rf setting to enable when you flash 0.44 as the firmware is made to work with that specific line of remotes.

Looking at the instructions I do not see any mention of swapping wires on the antenna cable https://fortin.ca/download/90791/omega-ol-rf-52-sst-install-guide-90791.pdf however you said this was working up until the engine swap. So I would leave the wires as is if thats the case.

Next thing you could try is a master reset of the R/S module. Bottom of page 3 shows you how to perform this reset. https://fortin.ca/download/90791/omega-ol-rf-52-sst-install-guide-90791.pdf

Make sure the antenna is not connected when performing the reset.

Once done you will need to re enable any specific options that were previously enabled in the R/S side of the evo-one as the reset set all options back to default. This is also how you will tell if the reset worked by seeing if the options switched back or not.

You do not need to touch the bypass side.

Once done you would then return to the truck and re attempt remote pairing.

Thanks, but both of your links go to the same PDF for the RF-52-SST. I found some instructions for reset you had given another member in 2016 and tried those. The antenna IS the valet switch for this setup, so I can't unplug it.

I wonder if the valet switch/antenna is no good? No matter how long I held the switch in with the ignition on (I waited over 60 seconds), the parking lights never lit, and the red LED on the EVO ONE never flashed.

Is there any way to troubleshoot the antenna? Do the 6x blue flashes from it when plugged in indicate some type of error or malfunction?

My mistake here is the reset, Bottom of page 2: https://fortin.ca/download/69611/rfk942-install-guide-69611.pdf

The 6 flash could indicate something but I do not know. I would suggest at this point contacting the rf kit manufactureur to see if that is an error code of some sort.

Thanks for your time on this. I have reached out to Omega for support, here was their response:

The OLRF52SST kit is not compatible with the EVOONE, only our RFKXXSST series was. It shows it is compatible however there was a hardware and software change that needed to occur and all of that won’t be finalized until later this year.

I still wonder why it worked up to a point.

I found the FCC manual for the REC-2P9S antenna here. The pinouts for it are as follows:

Pin 1: Rx data from antenna 0-5V (harness green wire @ antenna)

Pin 2: Tx data from host 0-5V (harness blue wire @ antenna)

Pin 3: GND ground from host (harness black wire)

Pin 4: 12V power from host (harness red wire)

Can you confirm the same data for the EVO ONE so I can be sure my wiring is correct?

Tx is pin 1

Rx is pin 2

OK, so it looks like i have 2 options here-

1. Keep the nice rechargeable LCD remote/antenna and install an Omega OL-MBD-ALL, or

2. Buy a lesser remote/antenna kit that is compatible (for now) with the EVO ONE.

Presuming the cost is about the same, will the OL-MDB-ALL interface with the EVO ONE via a data port so I can kep my interface to vehicle wiring? The diagrams for the OL-MDB-ALL (see below) just refer to a "remote start" module being connected via a D2D cable along with ignition and vehicle data inputs.

OL-MDB-ALL diagram

The data link connector on the evo-one only does first generation fortin protocol. You would need to find out if the omegalink piece offers that protocol.

But I would double check with omegalink that the remotes will work in the situation you are describing. Because they would be going to the omegalink and not the evo-one.
not sure what you trying to do there but the EVO-ONE would still be the main controller in that setup. Adding an ads/omega key bypass kit will not be much help
Thanks. According to Omega, the RF-52 kit is compatible with the OL-MDB-ALL. If needed, I guess I can just find a generic remote starter box and sell the EVO. Thanks again for your advice here.

Sorry I wasn't cvlear enough. My problem is the remote kit I want to keep is no longer compatible with the EVO ONE. I therefore need another box to plug the antenna into. Since it is an Omegalink antenna, I am wanting to use their box for compatibility. It looks like my best option is to use another remote starter box for this to work properly.

Solved-

I did a full reset on the unit, both bypass and remote start. This allowed the antenna to work as it should.

Reset process used:

Remote start:

1- turn ignition on

2- press and hold valet switch until parking lights turn on (or red led under the yellow loop begins to flash)

3- press and release the valet switch 23 times

4-press and release the brake pedal once

5- press and hold valet switch for 5 seconds. Pakring lights will flash to confirm.

6- turn the ignition off (park lights will flash 4 times to confirm exiting programming).

Bypass:

1. Hold down programming button while plugging in datalink connector.

2. Let go of button when LED is RED.

3. Push and hold button again until all three LEDs start to alternate.

4. Disconnect unit, it is now reset

Now of course another issue has arisen, the bypass will not program per the EVO ONE instructions. I'll look for another thread on it.
