Programming 2006 Explorer worked but then won't remote start

+1 vote
After going through program method 2, it starts but when I go to do another remote start it cycles through but will not start.  Have tried numerous times to program and got it accepted a few times only to find that an attempt to remote start does not work.

Hi Tim,

One quick note, if you got the RED LED to flash 10 times in the second part, do not attempt to program the unit over and over again. Ford / Mazda are particular in their methods of key programming.

  1. What model remote starter? datalink or hardwired?
  2. What is the 12 digit service number of the EVO?
  3. What LEDs turn on (on the EVO) when attempting to remote start?
  4. What does the truck do when attempting to remote start?

Does it work with the key upside down in front of the barrel and not in the barrel?

I'm thinking maybe key sense would need to be also connected.
YES, it starts properly with the key in front of the barrel and not in.

So what i can understand, the Key-Override-All programmed, but the vehicles BCM did not accept it. This can be caused by:

  • The BCM already had to many keys programmed to it. Their is a limit of 4-8 keys depending vehicles.
  • The BCM is not allowing key programming, this can be reset at the dealer

Before goin to dealer to get the BCM reset for key programming, go over the online troubleshooting guide. I'd also recommend that if this your personal vehicle and you are not a professional installer, to bring the vehicle to an installation shop.

Is it worth connecting the KEY SENSE to see if that works?

No harm in trying, power it as a 2nd ignition if you want to test it out.

Here's a test i just thought of while eating my sandwhich...

You can wrap the plastic portion of your key in aluminium foil until you are unable to start the car with the key anymore. Then, ground the (-)ground-when-running of the Key-Override-All and try starting the car with you aluminium foiled key. (not by remote start)
